TEACHERS’ CORRECTIVE FEEDBACK IN TEACHING ENGLISH THROUGH ONLINE LEARNING

Abstract

This article entitled “Teachers’ Corrective Feedback in Teaching English Through Online Learning (A Descriptive Qualitative Research). There are many kinds of corrective feedback that can be given by the teachers in teaching English to make the students realize their mistakes and understand the part of their utterances. This study aims at analyzing the types of corrective feedback implemented by teachers in teaching-learning English through online learning and to find out the most dominant corrective feedback implemented by teachers in teaching English through online learning. To achieve those objectives, descriptive qualitative was conducted as the research design supporting in gathering the data at SMK Negeri 1 Lhokseumawe. Three English teachers were purposively selected as respondents leading to data collection techniques using interview and documentation. In analyzing the data, this research was referred to Miles, Huberman, and Saldana’s integrated model. As the results, it showed that the English teachers implemented five types of corrective feedback in teaching English through online learning; recast, repetition, clarification request, explicit correction, and elicitation. The most dominant types of corrective feedback were implemented by the teachers are repetition and clarification requests. It is expected that the teachers could give all types of corrective feedback in teaching through online learning or face-to-face learning.
