Abstract

Walīmah is a wedding reception to inform the community around an important event that there has been a marriage contract between a man and a woman, so that it needs to be celebrated as it should, to avoid misunderstanding in the community about the marriage contract that had taken place. But in society it has become a tradition to celebrate it with musical accompaniment and so on. This celebration was intended to make the party festive, because it was a means of joy. Because Aceh is an area of implementation of Islamic Sharia which is supported by its local wisdom, the community uses religious music. So that this is a question mark, why do the people in Aceh do the ritual with religious music accompaniment? and What is the perspective of Syafi‘iyyah fiqh towards walīmat al-‘urs with religious music accompaniment? After further investigation, it was found that the reason the community performed religious music at the Walīmat al-'urs program was to enliven the wedding reception and adjust it to the socio-cultural conditions of the people who felt uncomfortable with the musical accompaniment that was exotic or vulgar, because it was a culture. west. The Syafi‘iyyah fiqh justifies religious music that is used by the community as long as it is not excessive and does not make it a means of spree, but if it is excessive and causes an immorality to arise because of it, then it is forbidden and sinners of the culprit and the organizer of walimah itself.
